Grief doesn’t just take someone from you. It permanently changes six layers of who you are

Self
You no longer recognise who you are without them — or without the life you had before.
Relationships
The people around you shift. Some disappear. Others don’t know what to say. You feel more alone in company than you do by yourself.
Body
Grief lives in the body before it lives in words. The exhaustion, the tightness, the inability to rest — this is grief, held physically.
Time
The past feels unreachable. The future feels unimaginable. And the present feels like somewhere you can barely stand to be.
Meaning
What you believed about life, love, and yourself —grief quietly dismantles all of it. Nothing means what it used to.
Presence
You’re in the room but not really there. You’re going through the motionsbut feel absent from your own life
In April 2026, I presented the six layers of grief at the Global Grief Conference —
introducing this framework to an international audience of practitioners andbereaved individuals from around the world
